What I am watching I’ve always wanted to watch “Le Miserables”, but that whole musical adaptation thing… I just could not watch it. I tried, trust me, but I could not do it. I guess because I grew up with musicals being ‘happy and fun’ stories, a musical of a sad tale… it just doesn’t work for me. So… when I heard of this new adaptation that was not a musical… YES! I taped it when it aired on PBS while I was stuck at the hospital with Nicky back in June and I finally watched it a couple of months ago and… I LOVED IT!!!! OMG. Lily Collins kills it. Five Stars!! I heard about Black Mirror on Netflix so much that when I was stuck in the hospital with Nicky I decided to give it a GO. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Each episode isRead More →

What I am watching The fact that I was going to watch The Spanish Princess on STARZ was a given! This is basically the “sequel” to “The White Queen” (about the life of Elizabeth Woodwille, wife of Edward IV) and “The White Princess” (about the life of Elizabeth of York, daughter of Elizabeth Woodwille, who married Henry VII). These are all historical novels written by Philippa Gregory. The Spanish Princess is Catherine of Aragon, first wife of the infamous Henry VIII, son of Elizabeth of York. The episodes center around her arrival in England to marry Henry’s older brother Arthur. When Arthur dies months after their nuptials Catherine schemes to marry Henry to maintain her previous status of future Queen of England. While I did love the show, I still think the original White Queen was much better, more “intense”, so to speak. Nonetheless, five stars! I remember clearly whenRead More →

What I am watching Three years ago, as season 6 was about to start, I got tired of hearing about Game Of Thrones everywhere, so I decided to binge on seasons 1-5. I first started watching 1 per day, then eventually were 2, 3, by the time I finished binging on season 5, season 6 was about to end, so I watched the whole last season in 2 days! I became as obsessed as the rest of the country. There is a reason why everybody talks about this show; the production, the fantasy, the storylines that converge at critical times, the level of unexpected twists, the darkness, the gore and the excitement. It’s everything rolled into one. Five stars! It all started with a conversation with my son’s RN. She was so excited about the upcoming season of “Call the Midwife“. I love this lady, she’s bent over backwards forRead More →

What I am watching Let’s face it. There aren’t many historical shows that take place in my beloved Italy, so when I heard about the “MEDICI” on Netflix, I was all over it. Season 1 had the further intrigue of starring Dustin Hoffman and Richard Madden. Season 2 jumps a couple of generations. While season 1 told the story of Cosimo de Medici (Madden), season 2 revolves around his grandson, the famous Lorenzo il Magnifico, played handsomely by Daniel Sharman. I truly enjoyed the show, and to learn history this way has always been my favorite mode. I’ve often said that the way they teach history in school is the most boring way ever, and now what happened in the Duomo in the season finale, will forever be etched in my soul. It was filmed in the same place where it happened 500 years ago. How cool is that? FiveRead More →

What I am watching I truly love the saga of Ross Poldark, now in its 4th season on PBS (Masterpiece). Aiden Turner in the lead role is quite the eye candy to boot! The show takes the story from a series of 12 books written by Winston Graham. Set in Cornwall, England, at the end of the 18th century, this show has it all. Romance, Betrayal, Jealousy, Wars, Intrigue, Politics… and the center of it all is our dashing hero. He’s the kind of man who knows good from evil, the kind of man who will always try to do the right thing. By his side is beautiful and fiery wife Demelza, whose big heart complements Ross’ quite well. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it. It is my mom’s favorite show of all time! All 4 seasons are now available on Amazon Prime! Also on PBS Masterpiece,Read More →

What I am watching I have a confession to make. I never watched the original “Lost in Space“. They never aired it in Italy when I was a kid, so there’s that. I catch my husband watch an episode here and there but to me it just looks so cheesy it’s unwatchable. I find that certain shows don’t age well if you didn’t watch them as a kid. I could watch the Original Star Trek or even Space 1999 until I am blue in the face and I love them, there’s that nostalgia factor, but futuristic shows that I never watched as a kid just do not stand the test of time in my view. So… I was excited about a reboot of Lost in Space with current special effects… and I was not disappointed!!! It’s really fantastic. Yes, some of the storylines are like… okkidokki…. but it was quiteRead More →

What I am watching I am a huge Trekkie as my friends know. I used to go to Star Trek conventions back in the early 90s! I am also, shall we say, an equal opportunity Trekkie. I like all Trek shows, movies, all the time, unlike my sweet hubby who is only a big fan of the original show. He’s watched the movies with me and a few of the Borg episodes of the Next Generation, but that’s about it. This new show, Star Trek Discovery, became available on  CBS All Access late last year. It is now on DVD for those that do have it. I didn’t watch it right away simply because I am just spoiled with other shows that I stream, I love to BINGE! CBS all Access would release an episode per week, so I waited until the whole season was available to stream. What toRead More →

What I am watching When season 1 of 13 Reasons Why dropped on Netflix last year I wasn’t interested in watching it at all. Let’s face it, it has been a LONG time since I was in High School, and little by little, year after year, movies or shows that depict teenagers’ lives are less and less relevant nor interesting to me. Then on a talk show one of the actors that portrays a parent of these kids started explaining how important the show was and how the parents were also part of the story, hence I figured I’d watch the first episode and then see what’s what. The show pulls you in immediately and it talks about so many subjects that are so taboo (bullying, rape, invasion of privacy, suicide and so much more) and it’s so well done that I watched the entire first season in a coupleRead More →

What I am watching I have been a Chicago Fire (NBC) fan from the very beginning and the show never disappoints. I am not sure what exactly I find compelling, but it does remind me of the old 1970s shows like Emergency or even CHiPs, which I grew up on. What drew me in initially was the fact that Jesse Spencer from “House” was going to be starring in it, but after watching the very first few episodes I realized that Taylor Kinney was an even bigger eye candy for me. “Mamma needs her eye candy” is what I tell my boys all the time, ha ha. This is one of the very few shows that I watch immediately as it airs, which I rarely do nowadays for any show. I normally tape everything and watch it “whenever”. I must also say that the crew of Chicago Fire invited an EBRead More →
