There comes a point in your life, usually with age, in my case at least, where you need to reclaim yourself and not put too much weight on what other people think or what our society deems acceptable. I now 1000% know who I am and I came up with these rules for to reclaim myself. Can you relate?
1. PEOPLE’S OPINIONS.
I’ve heard enough negative opinions about myself since I was a child that if I let that dictate my daily mood I would be in a pool of tears every single day. No, thanks. I learned that negative opinions have more to do from the person giving them than the person getting them anyway. I prefer to surround myself with positive people. People that care.
2. ABOUT MY EX.
I know I should hate my ex, but I don’t. Sorry. We’re still friends because it benefits my son. Our child comes first. Always.
3. PICKING MY BATTLES
Some things in life should upset us, yes, but things that can be fixed, or only marginally upset our daily equilibrium, should require a very minimal blood pressure spike. Our health is of outmost importance.
4. ABOUT THINGS OUT OF MY CONTROL
So much in life is out of our control. If there is nothing I can do to remedy the situation, giving myself a heart attack solves nothing. Zen out!
5. NOT LETTING ANYONE DISRESPECT ME
I’ve never been known for biting my tongue, but when you let someone belittle you and disrespect you, they will keep doing it. Gag! Stop that sh*t!
6. CONFIDENCE TRAP
Only spend that extra money on that Prada bag if it helps your confidence, because if you’re doing it to impress your friends, it’s not worth it. Trust me, they don’t care.
7. ENDING FRIENDSHIPS
Some people are just toxic. Don’t feel guilty for taking them out of your life. If they don’t care about you enough to return a message or say something nice and only spew hate, let them go. You’ll be better for it.
8. ON THAT PERFECT BODY…
It doesn’t exist. That perfect model you saw on the newspaper? She’s 6 feet tall and airbrushed. Oh, and she also starves herself. No, thanks. That does not mean I am OK with being obese, it just means that I want to eat healthy for me, not to look fantastic in that bikini… which I never cared for wearing anyway. Even though I have the stomach of a lizard after 3 full term pregnancies and 2 c-sections, I love my body, it ROCKS.
9. ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Yes, I do get excited when people like my tweets or facebook posts, but I also learned to not get too upset when people unfriend or unfollow me. Some people, when asked, give the stupidest reasons of why. Truly, you don’t need them if they don’t care. Period. We should also understand that some people will not like us no matter what. There is nothing wrong with us, we are just different people.
10. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES.
Those without mistakes raise your hand! We all make them. Your mistakes do not define you, you just need to simply learn from them. It’s our journey. If you hurt someone, apologize. If you hurt yourself, don’t judge yourself too harshly.
