What I’m Into {December 2018/January 2019 Edition}

What I am watching

If there was one show that I can truly, truly can say it’s my favorite of ALL TIME it’s Outlander, bar none.
I wish I can say why. Is it the LOVE? Is it the period drama that I am so fond of? Is it the time-travel stuff that I’ve always found fascinating? Is it the sexiest man I ever laid eyes on Sam Heughan? Giggles 🙂 I do not know, but I am obsessed. It’s the only show that I’ve watched, re-watched over and over again, listened to the podcast, I even went to the convention! I am absolutely gaga crazy obsessed!!!
I just watched the finale of its 4th season on Starz today and I am bummed. They haven’t even started filming season 5, which means before it airs, it will most likely be mid 2020. I better get on and start reading the book so I can handle the droughtlander!
The show is based on a series of books written by Diana Gabaldon. It tells the story of a WW2 Nurse who, after touching a stone in a circle near Inverness, Scotland, finds herself 200 years in the past and falls in love with a rather dashing Highlander. What follows is the best romance of all time, coupled with wars, loss, time travel, jealousy, heartbreak and so much more. The first 3 seasons are available on DVD & Blu-Ray

When I first heard about this new 8-episode mini-series called “My Brilliant Friend” about to air on HBO this past fall I was intrigued.
For one, it was filmed in Italy about 2 Italian girls growing up in post WW2 Italy (like my mom!) filmed in Italian! Of course some of their dialogue is in the local dialect, Neapolitan, as it’s supposed to be taken place just south of Naples, but, still, for me to watch a show in Italian so well done, I just had to give it a shot.
As per my usual I waited until the whole series aired and taped before I tackled the 1st episode and I wasn’t disappointed in the least.
Based on the book with the same title, written by Elena Ferrante, I do think I enjoyed this show more than probably most in the US because it resonated with me so much and I actually understood most (not the dialect though) and I didn’t have to rely on the subtitled to understand what was going on. I felt that in a way, I was watching my mom’s life story. My mom was also forced to stop school after she finished 5th grade, and there are some things here and there I found intriguing. Major thumbs up from this Italian girl!

I came across “Long Lost Family” on TLC recently and I don’t know how I missed this GEM! I quickly had to download all the 5 seasons and I watched one per day until I was caught up. The whole voyage one episode takes you through is astounding and emotional. We go from meeting the person that is looking for their long lost parent or child (less often siblings), the search, the finding of said person and the reunion. Most often these people are “lost” due to adoption, and it’s interesting to learn their stories. The most common story is a young teenage girl forced to give her baby up for adoption by the parents and most often than not, the child given up for adoption is not the one seeking the bio parents unless the adoptive family was not loving or supportive.
They use DNA a lot to find relatives and that’s what I find most compelling. Major thumbs up!!!

What I am Reading

If you’re looking for a light, fun book to read, this is it! Traveler is a fun ride! I have to say that I don’t normally read this kind of books, but this was written by a friend of mine from High School so I HAD TO! Yes, I am one of those friends! And… it’s AWESOME! So fun!
Here’s the synopsis: Jessa has spent her life dreaming of other worlds and writing down stories more interesting than her own, until the day her favorite character, Finn, suddenly shows up and invites her out for coffee. After the requisite nervous breakdown, Jessa learns that she and Finn are Travelers, born with the ability to slide through reflections and dreams into alternate realities. But it’s not all steampunk pirates and fantasy lifestyles—Jessa is dying over and over again, in every reality, and Finn is determined that this time, he’s going to stop it…This Jessa is going to live.

Love & Light,
